千葉県の船橋市にある東邦大学で開かれた日本貝類学会に行ってきました。そこで、日本の貝類学の最重鎮であられる奥谷喬司先生に、お会いしました。

奥谷先生は国立科学博物館、東京水産大学（＝東京海洋大学品川キャンパス）などで、長年にわたって貝類の分類、生態などのご研究をされてきました。驚くべき仕事の早い方で、多数の論文、多数の図鑑や啓蒙書を執筆されているので、非常に多くの方がご存知かと思います。
日本貝類学会の会長を長くつとめられ、学会誌Venusの編集長も長くつとめられて、同会の発展に多大な貢献をされてきました。
いつもほがらかで、気さくな方です。先生の著作では、1931年生まれとなっていますから、もう85歳になられるわけですが、今も元気いっぱいという感じです。
奥谷先生は日本貝類学会から名誉会長の称号を受けておられます。
